United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) will host the 8th Annual Fall Into Literacy Book Festival, a gathering of more than 3,500 community members, to promote childhood literacy, education, and wellness for local residents and guests. Community libraries and schools will partner with UWGLA to provide resources, including free books, education opportunities, and interactive learning experiences that help local, low-income EFL and ESL families celebrate and experience literacy. This year’s theme, Día De Los Libros, combines the cultural heritage of Wilmington and its surrounding communities.

Festival-goers can participate in more than 70 interactive learning experiences, including STEM activities, VR experiences, fitness pop-ups, and a hands-on instrument museum, listen to live readings from popular local authors, dance to musical performances, and meet popular children’s book characters Elephant and Piggy.

Each family will receive a free book to take home with them to celebrate the importance of literacy in our everyday lives. This year, United Way has secured more than 5,000 books to give away and to date has provided more than 35,000 books to kids with limited access to reading materials. Tips and resources to help children learn to read will also be distributed.
