More Info

Dave Chappelle: Dave Chappelle became known as a comedic genius during the run of his sketch-comedy program, the aptly titled "Chapelle's Show". The stand-up comedian was previously famous for his live performances and his roles in film. Use Eventful as your source for upcoming Dave Chappelle tour dates when they become available.

Chappelle was born in Washington D.C. where both of his parents were professors at prestigious universities. Under the comedic inspiration of Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, Chappelle decided to test his own stand-up chops and at the age of 19 he scored a spot on the 1992 Def Comedy Jam show. Following the success of the show he appeared in the hit films "The Nutty Professor", "Con Air", and the cult-classic "Half Baked".

By the early 2000s, Chappelle's stand-up comedy had made him a regular on the comedy tour circuit. His on-stage antics earned him the opportunity to star in his own comedy show on Comedy Central. "Chappelle's Show" debuted in the Fall of 2003 and was an immediate hit. The show parodied American politics, race relations, pop-culture, and also featured performances by some of hip-hop's hottest acts like Anthony Hamilton and Q-Tip.

The success of the show led to an increased payday for Chappelle as well as increased pressure. For the show, Chappelle earned two Emmy nominations for comedy writing. The show was so successful and so promising that Viacom, parent company of Comedy Central, offered Chappelle a $55 million contract for two extra seasons, plus part of the back end.

Chappelle continued to produce outrageously funny skits; his impersonation of Rick James became part of everyday American vernacular and even led to talks about filming a bio-pic of the embattled funk-star. Chappelle returned for Season 3 of his hit show, but was under immense pressure to live up to the success of the previous seasons. Chappelle buckled and he left mid-season after disagreements with the show's comedic direction.

Chappelle returned in 2005 to the comedy tour circuit and began doing shows in Los Angeles. In 2005, a Dave Chappelle national comedy tour was scheduled and he was featured on Inside the Actor's Studio. In 2006, Chappelle filmed "Block Party" which is a documentary about a concert he hosted in Brooklyn's Bed-Sty neighborhood. The concert-doc featured performances by Mos Def, Jill Scott, and Kanye West. In support of the film, Dave Chappelle took his comedy tour on the road to generate buzz for the documentary.

Since 2007, Chappelle has maintained a relatively low profile and has not appeared in any films. Chappelle has periodically performed his stand-up, however, there are currently no scheduled dates. Chappelle redefined comedy with "Chappelle's Show", and although it was short-lived, we still remember the one-liners and the sketches that he made famous. Lauryn Hill entered the entertainment world with several high profile projects that included a soap opera stint on As The World Turns in 1993. She made her film debut as a rebellious singer alongside Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act 2 before her music career took off. The following year, the Fugees took the rap world by storm. Their debut album Blunted in Reality garnered the band some attention in 1994, however, it was with their sophomore album The Score that they they achieved massive success. Lauryn Hill's piercing vocals and lyrically genius raps drove the album to #1 on the Billboard 200. Hill's vocal contribution to "Killing Me Softly" earned the group a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance. The album also won for Best Rap Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards.

Following the massive success of the Fugees, they went on an elongated hiatus to focus on side projects. Lauryn Hill soon entered the studio to create her masterpiece The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Released in 1998, the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the #1 single "Doo Wop (That Thing)". The following year Hill was nominated for a record ten Grammy Awards becoming the first woman to achieve the feat. She went home that night with five awards and gave a chilling and emotional performance of "Zion". Following the immense success, Lauryn Hill went on a self-imposed hiatus

Distressed with the media, the music industry, and the paparazzi, Hill focused on self-improvement, raising her children, and figuring her life out. She returned four years later in 2001 with her concert performance on MTV's Unplugged. The album MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 was released and featured all new acoustic material. The album debuted at #3 and eventually went Platinum. Following years of hopeful rumors of a Fugee return, the group reunited for a performance at "Dave Chappelle's Block Party" in 2004. Lauryn Hill tour dates were booked on a Fugee reunion tour across Europe in 2005.
